bookyoo, the Fresha alternative with zero commission
Two good tools for salons. One brings you a marketplace and takes a commission; the other leaves your clientele entirely yours. Here is, honestly, which fits whom.
Fresha is hugely popular in hair, beauty and wellness, and its public marketplace is a real asset: people looking for a salon nearby can discover you there. bookyoo plays a different game — appointments, quotes, invoices, conversations and online booking — with no commission on your clients, trilingual end to end and completely hosted in Canada.
Let's be direct about the 2025 change: Fresha ended its entirely free offering. Many salons had adopted it precisely because it cost nothing. If you have been redoing the math since, this page is for you.
This page is an editorial comparison: we sell bookyoo, but we would rather have a well-informed reader than an inflated argument. Where Fresha is the better pick, it says so below.
The differences at a glance
| bookyoo | Fresha | |
|---|---|---|
| Commission on your clients | None. What your clients pay you is entirely yours. | 20% (minimum $6) on each new client from their marketplace; clients who rebook through your direct link are not commissioned (as published July 28, 2026). |
| Cost for a three-person salon | $29 a month, everything included, unlimited (USD). No per-person add-on. | Team plan published at $14.95 US per bookable member — about $45 US for three — plus commissions and payment fees. |
| Marketplace & new clients | We are not a directory. You bring your clientele; we help you keep it and bring it back. | Their real strength: a marketplace where potential clients search for a salon. If that storefront genuinely brings you people, it can be worth its commission. |
| Who owns the relationship | You do. Your clients book on your page and receive documents in your name. You export your data whenever you want. | Clients found through the marketplace stay tied to their platform. Several salons report existing clients wrongly counted as new — check your attributions. |
| Booking on your own website | A button or page you paste into your website, and a booking link on your Google profile. | Booking available; check the degree of customization and how much room their brand takes. |
| Appointments with a specific person | Your clients choose their stylist or esthetician, each with their own availability. Automatic 7/2/1-day reminders by email and text (with their consent) and one-click confirmation — no-shows melt away. | Appointment and team management available. |
| Quotes, invoices & accounting | One-click accepted quotes, invoices, polite follow-ups on unpaid ones, a Google review request after the visit, taxes fully harmonized to your province (GST/HST/PST/QST), QuickBooks and Sage exports, monthly tax summary. | Integrated checkout and reports; validate the level of Canadian tax compliance. |
| Working language | English, French and Spanish end to end — down to the PDFs and emails your clients receive. | Interface offered in several languages; check the translation of documents sent to your clients. |
| Where your data lives | Completely hosted in Canada (Montréal, Canadian cloud region), designed with PIPEDA and Québec's Law 25 in mind — nothing touches US infrastructure. | International platform — check their documentation to validate where your data resides. |

When Fresha is the right choice
You are starting out, your calendar has gaps and you want visibility: their marketplace exposes you to people who would never have heard of you. A commission on a client you would not have had is an acquisition cost — not a loss. As long as that math holds, stay with them.
When bookyoo is the right choice
Your clientele is already there and you are paying commissions on people who already knew you. You want a flat, predictable monthly amount, to keep the relationship with your clients, and to know exactly where your data lives. From there, every avoided commission stays in your pocket.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Fresha cost in 2026?
As published in July 2026: about $19.95 US a month solo, or $14.95 US per bookable team member, plus a 20% commission (minimum $6) on each new client from their marketplace, and payment processing fees. The entirely free offering ended in 2025. Always check their site for current amounts.
Do I lose my clients if I leave Fresha?
Your clients are your clients: they know you, not your software. Export your list, tell them about your new booking page, and keep both tools running in parallel for a few weeks. Write to us — we'll help, free of charge.
Will bookyoo bring me new clients?
No, and we prefer to say it. We are not a directory: we help you take bookings on your website and Google profile, bring your clientele back, and collect reviews. Marketplace acquisition is Fresha's trade.
Is there a commission on payments?
No bookyoo commission. Card payments go through your own Stripe account: the money goes straight to you, minus Stripe's fees.
Is a contract or credit card required to try it?
No. The 7-day trial is complete and requires no credit card.
